Dr Tony Nwoye, Member Representing the good people of Anambra East and West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives,  has bemoaned the demise of Colonel Joe Achuzia Rtd,  who passed unto glory in the early hours of monday, 26th February, 2018.

Col Joe Achuzia was one of the few living civil war veterans and Biafran hero. Achuzia, who was one of the soldiers who left the Nigerian Army to join the Biafran Army in May 1967. A veteran of the Nigerian Biafran war died at the age of 89 in Asaba.

He had served as Secretary General of the Ohanaeze NdiIgbo as well as lent  his voice to matters affecting the Igbo nation and Nigeria.

Dr Nwoye described his death as a painful  loss to Ndi Igbo.

"I received with deep sadness the news of the death of Col. Joe Achuzia, aka Hannibal, who fought bravely and gallantly  on the side of the people of the defunct Biafra.
Those of us born after the war, but read trough the history, cannot take for granted his gallantry during the
civil war and his post war contributions in rebuilding the Igbo nation.

Col. Achuzia was also an Igbo nationalist as well as an elder statesman one who saw himself as as a thorough bred Igbo at a point when it did not seem expedient to do so.

I hereby commiserate with his family and the people of the Anioma nation on his demise, Ndi Igbo and Nigeria have lost one of our leading lights and a voice."

A hero has taken a bow may his brave soul rest in Peace Amen
