Dr. Tony Nwoye, MHR Congratulates Teachers on World Teachers' day, 2017.
The World teachers' day as celebrated October 5 of every year, avails us yet another auspicious occasion to commemorate, extol and appreciate the contributions of teachers all over the world, Nigeria and indeed Anambra State in particular. It is also targeted at mobilizing support for the teachers and intending teachers all over the globe to ensure that the educational needs of the upcoming generations will continue to be met by the teachers.
The teachers have remained integral part of the founding members and inalienable pillars of a good society, and the students also. This is because without a student, there wouldn't be a teacher.
It was Malala Yousafzai who said "one child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world" . This has remained my guiding philosophy which has spurred me into the different education-friendly legislative bills which are at various stages of legislation on the floor of the green chamber of the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS). Chief of them being a bill seeking to establish a Federal University of Education, Nsugbe, Anambra State, amongst others.
As my dear state, Anambra gears up towards electing a new governor who would steer the ship for the next four years, I pride in the fortunate coincidence that I'm also an aspirant for same position. In tandem with the theme of this year's celebration "Freedom in Freedom", I have articulated in my manifesto some key education agenda for the people of Anambra state when I ascend the stool of governance. They include, but not limited to;
- Subsidy on the cost of education in state owned tertiary institutions to reduce the burden on parents and guardians.
- Free education for public schools, free senior secondary certificate examination fees
- Prompt remuneration, different welfare packages for teachers and students amongst others.
The best teachers don't necessarily give you the answers; they spark within you the desire to find the answers yourself. I'm grateful to be your student and always. Thank you for challenging me to be my best, yet instilling in me a passion to learn more and being better person.
Happy Teachers' day 2017.
