Students of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe shut down Awka over hike in school fess and Transport fares by Anambra State Government.
The students who arrived Awka the state capital in large numbers to protest and lay their plight for consideration by the state government.
Recall that on Tuesday 25th July, 2017. On the floor of the National Assembly, Hon Dr. Tony Nwoye, the member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency led the debate on the second reading of the bill he solely sponsored for the upgrading of the Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe (NOCEN) to a Federal University of Education.
The economic benefits of Upgrading Nwafor Orizu College of Education to A Federal University of Education include but not limited to the following;
Once the Bill is passed into Law, this Nwafor Orizu College of Education you see will become the First Federal University of Education in South East and South-South.
Nnamdi Azikiwe budget for 2017 is 7.7Billion Naira, while Anambra State budget for the College of Education, Nsugbe is N200million for Capital Projects and N480million for subvention which is for salary of the Staffs of the College.
Staffs of Nwafor Orizu College of Education will automatically become federal civil servants.
Mass employment of ndi Anambra into federal civil service.
Nnamdi Azikiwe federal university Awka's tuition fee is below N30,000 while that of Anambra state university is N130,000 and Nwafor Orizu College of Education currently pays a tuition fee of a little above N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira).
