INEC reaffirms Chief Agbaso as the National Chairman of APGA

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has frowned at the flagrant disobedience of Superior court judgements by political parties. The chairman of the Commission Mr Yakubu made this assertion while declaring open a two-day conference in ABUJA.

He said that "A similar case ahead of the Anambra governorship election is the crisis in the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA where the former chairman chief Victor Oye has gone to the High Court in Awka to challenge the case of his suspension which has been affirmed by the Appeal Court in Enugu".

Recall that  “On May 22, 2017, an Enugu State High Court presided over by Justice Ozoemena, gave an order of mandamus, compelling the police and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognize Chief Martin Agbaso as APGA National Chairman”.

According to the National Deputy Chairman (South), Chief Oye approached the Appeal Court, urging it to join him in the suit, as well as vacate the earlier order made by the lower court.

“In a landmark judgment, the Appeal Court joined him in the suit but outrightly rejected the application to vacate the judgment of the lower court.

While Ozo Victor Oye and his group have since approached two courts of equal jurisdiction in Awka and Nnewi, on the same issue. There is hierarchy in judicial process and it is only the Supreme Court that can set aside an order or judgment of the Court of Appeal”,
