"I SPEAK THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH" Hon Sir Tony Oneweek Muonagor.
My fellow delegates. As we prepare to vote and elect a candidate on 19th of this month to fly the flag of the APC in the forthcoming Anambra state Guber election, I want to tell u the following BITTER TRUTHS.
1. Our party the APC has never won any election in Anambra state. We lost in our first attempt at the governorship in 2013 when our leader Senator Dr Chris Ngige came 3rd behind the incumbent Chief Willie Obiano and Hon Tony Nwoye.
Barely 2 years later, we woefully lost in ALL elections of year 2015, returning not even a single person in the national and state assemblies. Infact we lost our only Senate seat and our 4 house of assembly seats (including mine) to PDP and APGA.
2. As at today, our party the APC is neither popular nor really loved in Anambra state. (*Note that some beneficiaries of the forthcoming primary election Bazaar, especially in the state executive always hate me when I speak this truth as they want everyone to believe that APC is soooo popular and loved in Anambra state).
No apologies brethren, APC is a hard sell in Anambra. Only the hard bitter truth will set us free and on the part of victory. Therefore, for a party going for election in 3 months time, we are very sadly left with the clear option of finding a NEW FORMULA for this victory that has eluded us.
Shocking as it may sound, our only real viable option is AVOIDING THE CORE APC IF WE MUST WIN. Yes. Anybody who can be quickly identified in Anambra state as deep APC will naturally attract more hatred than someone who is relatively new. Radically contradictory and anti so called core APC u may say of me, but if u chill and give my postulations a deep thought, u will certainly agree with me.
Note that there are politicians among us who really do not care whether we win or not. These bunch just move from aspirant to aspirant telling them what they wanna hear and collecting their monies. Tony Oneweek is a core APC who sincerely wants to WIN. That's why I don't paint the truth.
WE CARRY A BAGGAGE. Tell me who doesn't hate us? Is it the hungry man who can't feed or renew his rent? Is it the market woman who believes the cost of garri is high because of APC? Should I discuss the Biafra angle? Nwanne... Think!!!
3. The Federal government under PMB does not influence the outcome of elections. Osun west is still fresh. This means that a purchased ticket will not fly. This means that a foisted candidate will fail woefully. This means we cannot write results like the PDP allegedly did in 2015. This means that only a grassroot politician who is known and loved in the nooks and crannies of Anambra stands a chance of winning.
This means that a candidate who has never won even his local government area in a far lesser election is a no no. Neophyte Obiano had an incumbent Peter Obi to deliver him. This election is not for anybody who has not had an election experience as a candidate. Honestly speaking, can we even say that as APC, we "know how to win election" in Anambra? Should we gamble with someone who will be overwhelmed by the ticket?
4. I read many pro APC and anti APGA posts and I laugh. Helloooooo!!! Incumbent Willie Obiano will not be easy to beat. I think we are underestimating his capacity. His sour relationship with his predecessor is the reason he will do battle like a wounded lioness.
It's the fight of his life and I assure u he can only be beaten by a candidate who can surpass or match him in every department. This election aburo egwu umuaka. It is not a battle of English grammar or speech making. This general election will be determined by POPULARITY, ELECTION EXPERIENCE, MONEY & GUTS.
5. Anybody proposing that we elect our candidate from Anambra south is not just a confussionist but a trouble maker. After 11 years of Anambra Central and 4 Anambra Southerners' occupation of Anambra government house Awka, the first ever occupant from Anambra north is the incumbent. And we can't wait for atleast 4 more years before going south and back to Central? Common!!!! Even in hell, there is order. (Pls keep ur story and twisted logic abeg. Some say it's democracy. Onye zota nya zolu. Ngwa zobanunu).
In the interest of equity, the rational thinkers among us will agree with me that the best we should do is change Willie with his brother or allow him finish his second tenure before we go south. That's my unrepentantly candid opinion and u really can't do anything about it except state ur own opinion and let the people also read and judge us.
6. I totally align myself with Ohaneze, Chief Dr Ekwueme, Ex Gov Peter Obi and many other persons and groups who support zoning. If after every four years like in Enugu, we already know the zone whose turn it is to give us a governor, there will be more peace and less wastages. Zoning will help Anambra to develop faster, surer and more equitably. Enugu state is reaping the benefits of zoning today.
MY SUBMISSION
As a statutory delegate who will cast a vote on the 19th of August at the APC primary, a staunch believer in zoning and a man who wants APC to record its first electoral victory in Anambra state this November.., I WILL VOTE FOR HON TONY NWOYE to be returned as candidate of APC for the Anambra Guber election 2017.
Love him or hate him:
*Tony Nwoye has the requisite popularity, experience, guts and money, having nearly beat Willie Obiano 4 years ago in the same election and placed 2nd after several frustrations by his then party PDP who had an unholy alliance with the APGA and ensured he lost out.
*Tony Nwoye of APC currently represents incumbent Governor Willie Obiano of APGA's Federal Constituency at the NASS. This is a clear indication of immense popularity and acceptability within his constituency. Charity begins from home.
*During the day, Tony Nwoye's detractors say he is sponsored by Prince Arthur Eze but in the night, the same aspirants will go to beg the same Ozoigbondu for money and his blessing. Nkogheli. My question is: Does anybody contest governorship or presidency without sponsorship?
Who in this world has contested such major election without financial support from outside? When has sponsorship become a crime? Will whoever emerges as our candidate not organize fund raising dinners?
*Having been a highly successful state Chairman of a ruling party, Tony Nwoye is best equipped to empower and reposition our party the APC as Governor. He has so endeared himself to the APC ward members that u would think they have been together for 6 years. They genuinely love him. This feat was very easy for him because of his grassroots experience in party politics.
*Perhaps Tony Nwoye's greatest credential in this race is his ability to CONVERT VOTERS TO APC during the general election. It's a daunting task that no other aspirant can do better than him. I am talking about going into the main market to address traders and ask them to vote APC. I am not talking about APC ward tour. Welu ile gi gua eze gi onu nwannem. We have a tedious job ahead.
*If u check well, u will discover that people who talk down on Tony Nwoye are the few proud and pompous so called elites who have no business with the grassroots. These people can not win a free, fair and credible election. They are so afraid of Tony's guts and rising profile.
*They say Tony is a tout. He is not polished. He is this and that. I laugh. Anya ufu kaliii mana Jehovah bu Eze na edu Tony Nwoye. God enabled Tony to single handedly overcome the clutches of poverty, became a comrade and championed the causes of students and is presently in the National assembly.
*They can't stand Tony because the guy has achieved a lot more than they gave him a chance to. They are angry with themselves because they thought they were his God. In their anger and folly, they seem to have forgotten the words of Tony Ubesie: "Ukwa ruo oge ya, odaa". They are still battling to stop his growth. Unfortunately, TONY NWOYE HAS BECOME A MOVEMENT.
As for the 19th, the wisest vote is a vote for Hon Tony Nwoye. That's the first step to an APC Governor elect Tony Nwoye come November.
ONLY THE TRUTH WILL GIVE APC VICTORY IN ANAMBRA FOR ONCE.
